SF Academy of Art Annual Fashion Show: Event recap
May 22, 2019
SF Academy of Art University held their Annual Fashion Show to the public on Saturday, May 11th. Fashion students studying Fashion Design, Menswear Design, Knitwear Design, Textile Design & more gathered to showcase their work to friends and family as well as guests. Hundreds gathered in the Academy’s Polk Street campus to see what graduating students had to showcase. The show was free to anyone who registered, joined by many prospective students who were then welcomed by Elisa Stephens, President of the University. She gave background on her family history with the school in her opening and later closing speech filled with gratitude. The room was filled with color, texture, and eye-catching pieces, with unique choices made by the audience, designers, and students filling the auditorium.
Shoutout to the lady sitting next to me, who kindly offered me one of her unique hats to wear for the show; a black sequin embellished piece with purple roses and pink and blue feathers. The hat was made by a local SF artisan, Kathleen Kelley.
